Friday, August 1, 2014 - 14.5% alcohol. Dark garnet color with a pink rim. Initially, plummy with a youthful grapey nose and a touch of smoked meat, but with air, lavender and olives mingle with the darker spectrum of grenache fruit. The dark-fruited palate jumps forth with tart, plum skin and blackberry. Structurally, this medium-bodied wine has solid acidity with firm tannins on the finish, likely a byproduct of Jeff's 100% whole cluster treatment. Overall, this spoke more of syrah rather than grenache, but it was quite an enjoyable wine with dark fruit and evident tannins. This paired well with black olive pizza, as the tannins were tamed by the cheese , and the olives paired well with the wine's flavor profile.
