Sunday, May 22, 2016 - Reasonably attractive varietally consistent nose, but on the palate I found this somewhat underfruited -- at age 10 the tannins are still quite prominent (I rarely complain about tannins); the acid hits next, with the flavors left to play catch-up -- some tobacco, soy, oak (not the toasty vanilla kind, but still more of a minus than a plus in my book), herbs and just a hint of dark fruits, though really not much in the way of fruit. Struck me as an older-school rendering of Barolo, but only a good and definitely not a great one. Age may soften the tannins but the lack of fruit means it won't really improve from here. Requires hearty food in accompaniment.
