  • The last of a six, I think, I acquired a few years back - maybe ten years after vintage. Deep color with pronounced bricking at the rim. Tar and black treacle on the nose, lots of wood spice, not a lot of fruit, but some crunchy red currant plus more mellow blue stone and berry fruit. Somewhat muddy aromatics. A slight whiff of VA, hints of fenugreek. Slightly on the acid side of good balance on the palate, but pretty intense, with a pleasant and juicily lingering finish.

  • Pretty classic, rose-edged mature Nebbiolo aromas on the nose and decent intensity at age 14; the format on the palate is a little lightweight suggesting a more entry level bottling and you'd gain very little from pushing this further in the cellar but this is very drinkable and enjoyable right now and could be a good starting point for the Barolo novice. Good balance - nice acidic refreshment and the tannins are very fine and not drying in the least.

  • Tasted at Fascino in Montclair, NJ - a high end Italian restaurant to celebrate all the things with my husband Ryan. Tight on the nose smelling of new leather and dark cocoa chocolate.
Well balance of tannin and acid.
Paired beautifully with our pasta dishes (homemade ricotta gnocchi with sweet Italian sauagse bolognese and papparadelle lamb ragu) and then with the pork chop saltimbocca - perfection.
Tighter on nose than the palate. Palate extends to a bit of sour cherry and berry fruit, some plum and some subtle chocolates notes at the finish
Lingers on the mouth. Beautifully balanced and enjoyable with food or on its own.
    Recommend to decant.
    Simply wonderful

  • Reasonably attractive varietally consistent nose, but on the palate I found this somewhat underfruited -- at age 10 the tannins are still quite prominent (I rarely complain about tannins); the acid hits next, with the flavors left to play catch-up -- some tobacco, soy, oak (not the toasty vanilla kind, but still more of a minus than a plus in my book), herbs and just a hint of dark fruits, though really not much in the way of fruit. Struck me as an older-school rendering of Barolo, but only a good and definitely not a great one. Age may soften the tannins but the lack of fruit means it won't really improve from here. Requires hearty food in accompaniment.

  • Cherries, anis, mentha. Fine coarsed tannins. Elegant and nice balance. A bit short for a Barolo, but a good buy.
