2010 Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard

Community Tasting Note

Tuesday, November 22, 2016 - Dark garnet, completely opaque. Very viscous, with slow moving "legs". The nose took some time to open, but became very pronounced, of roast meat, charred wood, blackberries, plums. Full-bodied flavors, also dark fruits, building over 30 seconds, mouth-coating but perfectly balanced, very long aftertaste, with some anise. Nearly perfect, and very drinkable, but will easily hold many years.

All excited-opened bottle ans wonder smalls emerged. Swirled and bang-wonderful nose vanished. Doe that. Mean it. Needs more time. Dave

First, I think decanting a wine for a couple of years is a bit long. The most I've done, for some of the "tannic monsters" of the 70s and 80s, like Dunn's Howell Mountain or Mayacamas, has been about four months at room temperature. Also, I'm not familiar with renting wines. Generally I buy them, especially if I plan to consume them. Considering your spelling and syntax, are you outside of the U.S. and having your comments translated into English? If so, it may be the wine was damaged in transit.
In any case, I usually decant a Cayuse syrah a couple hours ahead. We have had several bottles of the 2010 Cailloux and they have been outstanding and very drinkable. I think the beauty of his wines is that they are rich and balanced, without being overtly tannic, even when young. They and the Reynvaan wines have become our favorites of all U.S. wines.

    So how are you doing?
