2015 Ridge Geyserville

Community Tasting Note

Thursday, June 22, 2017 - Underwhelming. At the end of the day I just don't get California wines for the most part. Ridge is sort of the old world drinker's California favorite so I always want to like it, and sometimes even do. A recent taste of the '14 Geyserville was enjoyable, but it was a small pour. Anyway, based on that I grabbed two of these. I found this has a lot of vanilla but not much depth of fruit or anything of particular non-fruit interest. It's very young and that could be the greater part of the problem. I don't like evaluating a wine too young, but I followed this over several hours which is usually a good enough window into even a young wine. I will bury my other bottle and perhaps in a few years I'll laugh at my own folly; or not.

6/25/2017 1:20:00 PM - My comment is from the perspective of someone who has consumed Geyserville and Lytton for 30 years. Can't count the number of reviews I have seen on early release of these wines that were less than enthusiastic. Cheers!
