Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - I miss the old style of Copain with its voluptuous fruit and great intensity of flavors. This wine is still very youthful despite its 12 year age. The beautiful and juicy blackberry and boysenberry fruits form the foundation for this wine which then opens into a gorgeous meaty and gamy Syrah mid-palate followed by a long finish. The wine melds together balance, ripeness and dark, brooding elements to form textured layers of flavor that roll over the palate in waves. It lacks a bit of complexity but makes up for that in personality. It still has years ahead of it, but it is highly appealing right now, so no need to wait.
