Sunday, September 17, 2017 - F1 2017 Finals at Jason's New Place (Glades): Screw-cap. Pop and poured. Drank over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of vanilla, milk choocolate, fresh brambly red berries, red plums, slight emerging earth and some floral rose. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), smooth high tannins, full body,. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red plums, brambly red berries, sweet vanilla oak, chocolate. Long finish.
Rather disappointed as this is not as good as I remember the 2012 vintage of this was. This one seems to have the fruit somewhat diluted and the strong oak being used to cover up the inadequacies. Overall still a good effort for Mouvedre nonetheless. Wonder if a few years age could integrate the oak and if gamey meat might emerge.
