2017 Tablas Creek Vermentino

Saturday, August 18, 2018 - Tasted blind next to the 2017 Palmina Vermentino. (We knew that one was Tablas and the other Palmina and had had both of them at separate times in the past and are much more familiar with Tablas.)

The Tablas shows its tell-tale flinty minerality and taut body along with light touches of citrus zest, white flower blossoms, which contrasts with the more somewhat riper, rounder, floral style of the Palmina, which exhibits more texture, particularly with some air. Both are fine efforts and label 13.0 abv, both work as aperitif wines or would work with fish or shellfish. My preference is the Tablas, which I find a bit classier and more refined (if Vermentino is allowed those descriptors!)

Both wines are best on PnP and with just a bit of air, neither benefits from extended air contact.
