Monday, October 8, 2018 - Deeply colored still; very deep, dark sullen and ultra ripe fruit on nose and palate. Reminds me of attending a tasting of California wines many years ago when I was just getting into wine, sitting next to a very experienced wine guy, he quietly but confidently stated, “that’s very good - for a Zinfandel.” It was an overwrought Pinot noir.
Picked this up 6-8 years ago for $40. If tasting blind, would have guessed a Pacific NW Syrah. Very good, but too big, rough and unidentifiable as Pinot (at least the Pinots I drink). Very little tannic astringency but plenty of acid to go with the soupy ripe fruit.
