Best showing yet over roughly a dozen years of consuming this case. Very fresh strong acidic base. Great depth of flavor, roasted cherry fruit, herbal, cola. The earlier ripeness has evolved into a nice profile of secondaries. This bottle was going strong.

Christmas Diner… alas… my last bottle. Deep red with strong plum aromas. Very tight when poured, an hour later, smooth flavors or black berry and plum. Well balanced. I wish I had more. .

Retail $65? I bought three bottles of this wine online, just a couple of months shy of a decade ago, for just under $40/bottle. The first bottle was Outstanding (but a little stewed), the second was decidedly better, and this last cork? Holy cow--certainly the best of the lot. Bright, dark cherry fruit in the glass with equal parts vanilla, earth, and spice. Yowza. The palate? Even better. Maybe *much* better with rich fruit, zingy acidity, incredible balance, and a lengthy finish. Not much else to clamor for, no? Whoa.
Retail $65. I last tasted this a year ago and it was delightful. Today? Whoa. Ramp it up a notch. After spending several minutes trying to extract the cork which broke shortly after the initiation of the extraction process and running the wine through a small sieve to avoid any chunks of cork, holy cow. While the last bottle was a bit stewed, at least initially, this bottle was singing from the jump. Black cherry, mocha, and slightly herbal, the nose here is off the charts. The palate is perhaps better: fruit, tartness, earth. Yowza. Among the best Pinots I have had this year, for sure. thedrunkencyclist.com

I failed to take detailed tasting notes but this was an excellent bottle of Evanstad Reserve. Very fresh, structured, and still full of juicy fruit. One of the best I’ve had recently from the ‘06 vintage.

Really nice aged Pinot. In its prime right now, but I wouldn't wait too much longer. Aged raspberry, mint, black tea. Acidity is there, but the younger Evenstads definitely seem to be a lot more acidic. This was a joy to drink. Never did it seem like this one needed acoutrement to make it better. Has the rounded character to do well alone and the acidity to drill complement food. When I thinkbof classic Willamette Pinot, this is usually it.

Benchmark Oregonian Pinot Noir. Beautiful balance with red berry, jus and sweet earth. Creamy, but still flushes the palate and leaves a long satisfying finish.

Deeply colored still; very deep, dark sullen and ultra ripe fruit on nose and palate. Reminds me of attending a tasting of California wines many years ago when I was just getting into wine, sitting next to a very experienced wine guy, he quietly but confidently stated, “that’s very good - for a Zinfandel.” It was an overwrought Pinot noir. Picked this up 6-8 years ago for $40. If tasting blind, would have guessed a Pacific NW Syrah. Very good, but too big, rough and unidentifiable as Pinot (at least the Pinots I drink). Very little tannic astringency but plenty of acid to go with the soupy ripe fruit.

This changed considerably over the course of an hour. First, it was slightly stewed with dark fruit. Eventually, though, it mellowed with black cherry, spice, and a bit of earth. On the palate, gangbusters. Fruit, depth, weight. Whoa. thedrunkencyclist.com

Right in its prime. Dark fruits initially. Then showed some barnyard at the end of the bottle. Great pomagranite and dark cherry flavors. Very focused, long finish.

Better tasting the second day opened - richer, smoother, and more integrated. A little lighter in color than 2 years ago, but only just short of opaque. Deep red and black cherry aromas, plus some cedar. The sip shows good concentration, lively acidity, and decent roundness. The swallow is very smooth and delicious, culminating in a long, fruity, and mouth coating finish.

Nice Pinot. smooth (as it should be for a decade-old wine), with still fruit and acidity to balance. i think it was over the hill, as i remember the Evenstad with a plethora of intriguing olfactory nuances generally not found in other domestic PNs. However, this wine seems to have lost them by now.

Subsequent notes of this wine from close to three years ago. Deep dark garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of complex ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, boysenberries & currants with overtones of floral notes of rose & spices notes of cloves & cinnamon, smoky, minerals, some cocoa, dried herbs, toasted oak & a slight hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, complex, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & blueberries with spices, dried herbs, some cocoa, toasty oak & a gentle touch of vanilla. Lingering dry finish. Drinks quite well at present. It has pretty much stayed the same as when sampled previously with little development which tells me it is close to or at its peak of development at 11 years of age. I concur with other's comments that it resembles more a Cali Pinot than Oregon in style.

I have been getting a lot of bottle variation from Domaine Serene wines lately, but am pleased to say that this particular Evenstad Reserve bottling really left me wanting more. Wonderful, almost youthful, aromas of dark berry and cedar pour out of the glass. While on the palate, a good amount of fruit remains, leading to a short-to-medium finish. Perhaps it was just that I had been so let down by their single vineyards lately, but this wine more than delivered.

The Evendstad Reserve is a Pinot Noir that is fully capable of richly rewarding being aged for 20 years, and this 2006 almost half way is on track to achieving that. Looking at an inch pour in the glass, this Pinot is every bit as dark in color as Tuscan wines, Merlots, and Cabernet Sauvignons, though the dark color does fade to a lighter red at the edge. The nose is an inviting black cherry and black raspberry. The sip shows bright and juicy acidity with no tartness, a fruit shift into blackberry, excellent concentration, a caressing feel, and softened but still firm and drying tannin. The swallow echoes everything earlier with good energy and punch, slowly ebbing into a dry finish after about a minute. While not as great as the 1984, this 2006 remains one of the best Pinots made in Oregon, that is competitive with Pinots from anywhere else in the world.

Good though slightly subdued nose. Moderate color. No browning on edges. Riper and lower in acidity than most Evsnstad. Long cherry/raspberry finish. Still holding together but probably past peak by my taste. Very nice but somewhat Cali in style for Oregon.

Good pinot noir - medium on acidity and tannins - lots of sunny fruit - and a well integrated wine - good aftertaste - this is a very dark and in some ways heavy pinot noir and very typically from Californien

This is all about sour cranberry and cherry, even after decanting for an hour or so, it's definitely not Burgundian but it has some elegance and is delicious now, there's not much development here yet, so can hold for longer.

Deep dark garnet in color. Forward, fragrant & attractive nose of developed, mature & complex rich, ripe dark fruit aromas of dried cherries, boysenberries & currants with lovely floral notes of roses, overtones of smoky, tar & mineral notes, exotic spices notes of cloves & cinammon, anise, dark cocoa, dried herbs, toasted oak and a slight hint of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of mature & developed, smooth textured, dense, intense, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & blueberries with spices, dried herbs, some cocoa, toasty oak and a gentle touch of vanilla. Long lingering dry finish. Drinks quite well at present but may have the structure and fruit to continue further development with 3-5 years of additional aging. IMHO, an "iron fist in the velvet glove," like a Corton.

Overall probably not my style, but not a bad wine. This is a big, rich, ripe, dark Pinot. Filled with dark fruit, perfume, baking spice. The palate is very rich and concentrated, a touch hot at the end. As with my last note this is much more similar to a ripe Russian River pinot than some of the classic Oregon Pinots like Eyrie. If your flavor is more in the ripe Cali mold you will enjoy this

- Aromas of vanilla. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of vanilla, raspberry and cherry with a medium body. Smooth texture with a medium finish - Seemed overly oaky and low complexity. Maybe in an awkward stage as this lack vigor and true Pinot character. Not bad but not great either

On the nose and palate savory red fruits. Very smooth, but with enough structure to keep it interesting. Savory and complex, it's everything you want from a fine well-aged Pinot. Both the 2005 vintage, and now the 2006 version of this wine have been among my favorite domestic Pinots. Sadly, my only bottle, but very happy that I at least had this one.

Big fan of this. In a side by side against a similarly priced 2007 Pommard grand cru, the DS ran circles a around it. Great nose of red fruit and medium tannins. Medium to,long finish, good drink on its own or a mild flavored meat dish.

Drank wonderfully. Deep and rich for a Pinot, which is how I like them. Very atypical for an Oregon to have this much body. More like a Russian River Pinot in my mind. Wish I had more.

Dark ruby with complex nose of dark fruit, floral perfume notes, and a touch of earthy notes. Palate is big and fruit forward, seems to be lacking a bit of acidity and touch hot due to the alcohol. Overall more reminiscent of Cali than the WV.

Rich and deep for a Pinot Noir. Tons of fruit and light touch on the acidity. Could have more cut and energy, but this is pretty much classic west coast PN.

Notes of strawberries and sandalwood on the nose. Full bodied with rich, lush, cherry fruit in the mouth. But, I was told it was drinking like a Grand Cru Burgundy and it falls short of that. Definitely a good west coast Pinot, and it certainly has some Burgundian qualities. But it lacked the complexity, the barnyard notes, and the elegance. Still, a very good wine that stands on its own merits.

Black cherry and raspberry on the nose, almost makes you anticipate a delicate fruit forward and floral taste. First sip hits you on the back of the head smack. This is anything but. Earth, oak and then the fruit - that's the order it follows going down. Very long finish that invites the next sip. This is a big wine that can stand up to a filet. Please decant it.

a very Napaish, over-extracted style of Pinot Noir that lacks freshness and subtlety. Jammy, in-your-face fruit will appeal to some (like my wife) but it's not my idea of what a PN should be. Well-made for what it is so I can't give it too bad a rating since my objection is personal and stylish.

Opened and consumed over 2 days. Pop and pour. Day 1, nice rich raspberry red fruits, medium finish, fairly full bodied compared to other Oregon pinots I've enjoyed. Better the second day which may recommend a long decant. Fruit more vibrant, bright, richer in the mid palate, slightly longer finish. Very nice wine, delivers for me.

Smooth and easy drinking however I agree with other posters that the 2006 lacked pizzaz. Disappointing for a 6 year old Domaine Serene. Wine evolved some after 30-60 min with good fruit and low tanins. Finish lacluster.

Agree with previous rater that this is a bit lack luster compared to expectations surrounding this winery. Perhaps it's an off bottle but had a muddled taste and not even the classic Willamette nose. Two bottles to go so I'll hope it was just this bottle.

My expectations for this wine were so high given its overall reputation and expert ratings for this particular year. I am pleased with its Willamette wonderfulness, true to the pinot noir varietal and its terroir. But I am let down relative to what I anticipated based on such bullish reviews. I am closer to agreement with Tanzer's almost-excellent 88 points, but not the outstanding accolades of Spectator or Advocate. Compared to my other favorite Pinot Noir's at this price point, I will not buy Evenstad again.

Smooth, round, open, and polished; this wine is generous with its' clean, bright, sweet fruit, with good focus and persistence. Aromas of cherry pie and spice lead to a medium-bodied palate of raspberry, black cherry, cola, cocoa, and spicy oak. Open for business, and easy to drink.

Starts of heavy on the oak which however mellows out after 30 minutes or so to reveal a long redfruit nose. On the palate the red fruits are present and blend well with this relatively ( especially for Pinot) powerful wine. Quite a bit of tannin on the finish , prob a lot from the wood, and a nice long finish. We don't have much expirience in this wine to comment on evolution though. 92 at the moment.

Opened hot, even after a 1-hour decant, and didn't really mellow out until day two, when I could really appreciate the ripe strawberry, cinnamon, vanilla, and savory brown sauce qualities. The heat never did completely lose its grip on the wine's presence, which held this back, but otherwise, it was quite elegant and an excellent blend of New World and Old World style pinot.

2006 Oregon Pinot Noir Retrospective (Lou's): Ruby/purple in color. The nose is very herbal (rosemary). With air some cherries and slight earthiness emerge. Lighter bodied (I thought the lightest at the table). Like cherry flavored mouthwash on the palate. Maybe not quite as strong, but in that vein. Drinkable, but I would prefer more complexity.

Having taken a break from the 2006 vintage Domaine Serene Pinot Noirs, I was pleased to revisit the '06 Evenstad and find that it is still a well-balanced, well-crafted wine. Right from the start, aromas of cedar spice and fruit jump out of the glass. On the palate, it doesn't take long for the tannins and acidity to integrate into a silky body that lingers briefly on the finish. I feel that this wine has softened over the past year. While it is not flabby, it lacks the "punch" I seem to recall it once having; but that may be a good thing, as it's nice to have a wine that doesn't knock you out or overpower a meal. It's aging well, but I recommend keeping a close eye on this one ... it may be at its peak in 2011/2012.

The most disappointing wine of the Thanksgiving weekend; not bad, but the acidity was a little overpowering. This bottle had a stronger earthy/loam soil character compared to the one from June and was bigger and more balanced. Excellent. Nose was alcohol and black fruits. Still elegant, did not have the prunish elements of some of the fruit forward 06's with age. Savory, nicely balanced. With an hour or so of air took on some fuller fruit depth.

Nose of blackberry, vanilla, wood smoke and spice. Fruit forward sweet and juicy. This gets better with air so I suggest decanting about a half hour or so. Bright ruby color, translucent and vibrant! Fresh aromas of cherry, raspberry and cranberry with sutle bouquets of wet gravel, forest floor, vanilla, spice and lightly toasted oak. Medium-bodied, this wine features layers of red fruit with berries and plum on the attack, fairly concentrated and delicious, wrapped in a velvety tannin and crisp acidity on the mid palate, leading into a long, balanced and complex finish. Drink now, but the wine will evolve gracefully to develop more complex elements in the bouquet as well as on the palate over the next 10 years.

Good, but not as good as the reviews I read here at Cellar Tracker. More full-bodied and flavorful than most PNs. However, the first bottle I had of the 2007 Sonoma Cuvee Pinot Noir Pleasant Hill (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) was better and cost only $30. I did not decant the bottle, but opened it about 30 minutes prior to serving and each pour went through the Vinturi.

Decanted 30 minutes. Nose: cinnamon, cranberry, some light cherry and some pumpkin spice. Palate: medium plus body, long finish. Beautiful baking spices and cherry carry through and coat the palate. Bright acidity. This wine is all about balance. The oak, the fruit and the spice come together quite well. Beautiful. I would think that this would pair very well with salmon or turkey. I had been excited all month for this wine, but was also getting nervous when I read some recent reviews. I opened the bottle about 1 hr before pouring. I could not have been more pleased. It was full of red fruit, but not such that it overwhelmed the turkey and fixings. It had a richness that went perfectly with the meal. While the finish was not that long, it did have enough of a tannic finish to leave you wanting more. Still have one bottle left; may try in late 2011 or early 2012.

Tasting blind I figured this was a nice Cru Beaujolais, perhaps a really ripe Morgon. It's full of bright cherries and berries tinged with fresh floral elements, coming across very fruit-forward, ripe and slightly sweet, not particularly complex but quite tasty. Though at the price it seems quite ridiculous.

WOW, Jennings hit this one on the nose. Couldn't agree more and the 2+ years while correct, it is still very approachable now. VERY Pommard like but not as big as some of the big Pommards and Nuit St. George wines. Very much a similar terroir to S. Rhone. In all a GREAT wine with much potential. Had it over lunch with roasted vegetables and pan seared trout so I didn't take notes. I won't go as far as to compare it to the Romanee Conti, etc. they do in the WS magazine but my final not is just this one note...Buy, Buy, Buy.

I always like these wines. Red fruited with a raspberry emphasis. Oak is not overpowering, rather fitting into the wine quite well, rich and deep. Better in a few years and will probably improve. Thanks Carey.

Dark ruby to purple nose. Big black cherry, kirsh, spicy nose. Similar on the palate with a cola element. Velvety mouthfeel from the alcohol. Almost Califonia in style.

Always a crowd pleaser and an occasional closer in a couple of our blinds over the years. Obvious expensive wood on the nose and palate but carried by the considerably rich creamy fruit palate of Ripe red/black raspberries, plums and light cherry topped by notes of cedar and spice and a little pecan toffee. Pricey.

Ultimate Parker in Singapore Mega-Tasting (The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore): No DRC for sure, not even near a decent Grand Cru Burg, but otherwise a pretty good wine in its own right. Nose was sweeter, rather more candied than the Jerusalem Hill, with sweet cherries, lifted crushed flower smells, some rose petal - just about screams "New World!", but rather enchanting for all that. Palate was sweet, rich, with an almost cherry liqueur tone to it backed up with some earth notes. Not something I would normally like, but there this was pretty impressive, with great intensity and pure fruit wed to some lip-smacking juiciness and excellent balance, all nicely integrated and seamless as well. Finished was well muscled, with some tannins under all that flesh and a nice long spicy tone. Somewhat fresher here than the Jerusalem Hill as well. A nice new world pinot.
E&R's Pinot Noir-egon Weekend; 4/24/2010-4/25/2010 (Portland, OR): Quite dark color, showing a rich and creamy nose with some vanilla poking through. Lots of vanilla and some candied berries on the palate. Really tastes yummy. Despite the juicy fruit on the palate, this shows very nice tannin, acid balance on the finish with very nice fruit. This needs years, as not much of the juicy fruits are present on the finish. One of the finer 2006's I've had, and not flabby at all despite it's big fruit. Impressive. 90+

Swig Wine Tasting (Intercontinental Hotel, London): Surprising wine - deep nose with fennel, aniseed and sweet cherry coming through. In the mouth this has a deep softness to it - if I tasted this blind I would hesitate to pin it down as pinot noir. Nevertheless, some good complexity going on here - tangy on the palate. I guess this really needs another 3-5 years in a dark cellar to unwind a touch. Lacks a touch of acidity and tannic structure for my taste. Still, a very good wine though

decanted for at least 1 hour then it opened up into a delicious pinot, still very young, bright purple with a transparent rim, kirsch, sour cherries on the nose and palate and nice long finish, i think this should cellar well
After 1 hour decant, nose of ripe black cherries and heavy cream mixed with wet earth and cigar box. Palate right in line with the nose. Dusty tannins finish off this exceptional pinot.

Jan 23rd Dundee Hills Visit (Dundee Hills Oregon): This wine has an interesting nose that reminds me of a grill after you've finished cooking on it, along with some good blackberry scents. It's got a nice mouth feel with some good cherry flavors. The acidity is on the lower side, but the texture is even, and the whole experience is clean overall.

This is a great Pinot! My perennial favorite, the '06 is young but has balance and grace that will improve over time. Decanted for 1hr+. Nose of ripe fruit, that was explosive. Dark fruit and tons of spice, wonderful silky mouth feel. Drink over the next 5-10 years. Highly recommended, and can be considered a benchmark in the price range! AMM

Second bottle of this also enjoyed with seafood with Kim, paired with plank grilled steelhead trout. Great vintage this year, highly recommend this wine despite the price point making this too expensive to be a reasonable QPR - we get at least a case of this every year. Aerated for approximately an hour, would improve with a formal decant. Bright and young but already well balanced, elegant and complex. Medium mouth feel, longer aftertaste then remembered on previous bottle. Nose of red cherry, white pepper and allspice, primary flavors of dark cherry, plum, minerals with more complex flavors of cigarbox and black pepper developing late on the palate. The other 3 will go down well. Agree with previous assessment - better then the '05 at this stage of development.

Decanted for about 30 minutes but consumed over approximately 3 hours. Took some time to come around in the decanter, but such an elegant, subtle and flavorful pinot. On the nose there are candied violets, raspberries, and some dusty wet leather. Similar characteristics on the palate with some dusty tannin giving it some weight and structure. The 14.5% alcohol was perfectly integrated. Really reminded me of some of the amazing and highly over looked pinots coming from the Santa Cruz Mountains (e.g., McHenry and Windy Oaks) and no sign of the big, unbalanced pinots I have had from Oregon in the past. Probably one of the best OR pinots I have had, and should have a long and flavorful life ahead of it.

First '06 enjoyed last night with Kim over seafood dinner. Great vintage this year, highly recommend this wine despite the price point making this too expensive to be a reasonable QPR - we get a case of this every year. Popped and poured, certainly could stand longer aeration and would improve with a decant. Bright and young but already well balanced, elegant and complex. Medium mouth feel, short aftertaste. Nose of red cherry, white pepper and allspice, primary flavors of dark cherry, plum, minerals and a slight minty overtone initially with more complex flavors of cigarbox and black pepper developing late on the palate with aeration in glass and bottle. The other 11 will go down well. Better then the '05.

Very drinkable right out of the bottle, although a little hot at first. After about 30 minutes the nose is nice but still quite alchoholic, but I like that. Very dry and smooth, very little fruit at first then a touch of cranberry, earthy, mineral finish. Much more drinkable than '05, I like this one, actually worth the price.

The very appealing nose opens up with raspberry and a bit of hidden earthy scents. After 10-15 minutes in the glass the earthy notes comes a bit more to the front and leaves the red fruit a bit more to the background. On the palate it reveals a very nice raspberry and actually a bit darker fruits than i expected. It has a verty pleasant mouthfeel and the tannins gives the wine a very pleasant backbone. It finishes of quite longer than i expected and all in all this is a very good US PN effort although it lacks a bit of acid imho.

Medium ruby-colored, it offers notes of cedar, cinnamon, clove, cassis, and raspberry. This is followed by a medium- to full-bodied wine with layers of complex red fruits, enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years, excellent integration of oak, tannin, and acidity, and a lengthy finish.

Sept. 25, 2010. Second Blind Pinot Noir tasting of 6 Oregon wines with the Johnsons. Dinner was green beans and grilled tuna steaks with peach/mango salsa. Beautiful evening on the deck.
2006 Domaine Serene Evanstad Reserve. 87 avg. Deepest richest color of the 6. "smells better than it tastes" Great mouthfeel. G correctly id’d blind.
Blind tastings make you humble! We are clearly paying for labels and reputations in many cases. Next time mix up the varietals and open the wines and let them breath for an hour or so (Difficult to do when people coming from a distance). Great evening!

A bit to the darker ruby colored wines.
