Tuesday, August 14, 2018 - Wild, fresh-picked berries and loads of spice combined in an all-natural package - how do they do this for $23?? Whoa. Navarra is a region on the forefront of the resurgence (does Spanish wine need a resurgence??) of new age producers willing to push boundaries and branch out from tradition. Le Naturel speaks to that philosophy, leaning on a classic varietal but presenting it in a clean, refreshing style. The Arrambarri brothers aim for excitement, and they’ve hit the mark here; the wine displayed incredibly bright, crunchy fruit balanced by a strong floral, herbal sense that left no choice but another sip. Blueberry, currant, ripe pomegranate, and plum all played a part, joined by sage, pine, black pepper, and anise. Dried cranberry, sundried tomato, and licorice made apprearances, while an overall sense of charcoal/smoke carried through. Berry compote and fresh violets played through the irresistable finish - this was most certainly a crushable wine!
