94 Points

Saturday, March 30, 2019 - Informal dinner, no detailed notes. I love how most of the 2014 Napa Cabs are showing these days: ready to drink and less flesh, ripeness and concentration than the 2013s or 2015s. With a good amount of acidity this makes them very balanced and enjoyable at such an early stage while many 2013s seem not yet tamed and ready and the 2015s have often too much baby fat and an overwhelming concentration. This 2014 O’Shaughnessy is no exception: layers of ripe (and rather red) fruit (cherries), violets and minerality in the background embedded in a cool, classic frame with velvety tannins and a perfect acidity. Points deducted for the medium- complexity and delineation. For the elusive 95+ category I missed that special "something". Nevertheless, a very good wine which brings a lot of joy. This wine got roughly one hour in the decanter which seems about right.

4/4/2019 9:11:00 AM - Excellent comments about the vintage. I too have noticed how well the '14s are drinking right now, pretty much across the board. Thanks!
