Friday, April 12, 2019 - Not yet sure about the aging potential of this great 89+ CdR of JL Chave's negociant range. Now 2 1/2 years after harvest, it already is starting to go, in my mind, into a dumb phase now with less fresh and vivid fruity notes and with more harsh acidity (as seen in too young Syrahs e.g. ...) and an overal loss in balance. The quality of the Appelaitions, the age of the vines (20-60 yrs.) of which the wine is made of, the time in barrels of 12 month and the famous winemaker would suggest a drining window of around 4-8 years after harvest for a CdR Villages. The low price (if this is a factor to consicder) would rather not suggest greater aging potential at all. So what is the truth? Anyone out there to give some valuable tips? Would very much appreciate as my wine seller is not sure as well!
