Very dark, purple rim. Gorgeous ripe mixed berries and dark spice, seamlessly integrated. More flesh than your average CDR, velvety, extremely smooth, impressive length. Blue and red fruits, silky tannins, refined acidity, nicely structured. This could definitely age but it is excellent drinking now.

I've had a few vintages of Mon Coeur, and this was the best. Right in the middle of its drinking window; better on the first night (after an 30 min to an hour of air) than the second. Savory and plummy.

Well made CDR, easy drinking but not overly interesting. It is OK value @£11.50 all in but in this class the benchmark is the Guigal CDR which I believe holds a little more interest and can be had for less in the numerous supermarket sales.

90/91. Gave this 60-90 mins aeration. Has aromas of blackberries, gun flint, tapenade, rocks and sour cherries. Its solid decently oaked smooth peppery black fruits palate has nice length and freshness. 14.5%. Lay down 2-5 years.

This is certainly a confident and well-made wine. Nice natural feel and well balanced. The combination of cocoa and sour cherry reminded me even of a certain style of Nebbiolo, although of course this Rhone is way more powerful and thick than most Piemonts.
Good use of wood; this drinks well on its own but I'd guess it should also work well with (heavier) food - e.g. I would imagine this is perfect for a steak.
Why no higher score then? Well, it is rather mediocre in terms of complexity and refinement and the ambition is... see, in car terms, this is an Opel Insignia or a Ford Mondeo. It's good, it's fun, it does the job reasonably well but no-one mistakes it for an Aston Martin.
Paid ca. 15 EUR for it, which is commensurate with 'Ford Mondeo'; perhaps just a bit high.

More zest than the previous bottle; even after three days the wine was in perfect condition. A perfect colour, a fruit driven impression in the bouquet and in the taste, a firm, friendly spicy and juicy taste, round but with the edges that give the wine a character; lovely aftertaste with ripe bitters and tannins; perfect P/Q.
PnP. 50 Syrah / 50 Grenache in this vintage from mostly Rasteau and Cairanne. Deep purple. Fruit forward on the nose, good concentration and great balance. Tannins are still young. Haven't changed much on the next day. Very well made wine. Head and shoulders above a usual CdR.

Much much better than standard CdR. Meat bramble and black fruit on the nose, some sweetness from the grenache, but more black fruit, vanilla and a touch of oak. Lovely mouthfeel as well. Really classy wine for what it is, and 4 years old feels just right.

Remarkably deep purple with intense super-ripe dark berries, dried blackberry, and baked morello cherries then liquorice, cassia root, Parkin and rye bread. Plenty to the nose. On the palate, it is full-bodied, more than expected for a CdR with dark fruits dominating, furniture polish, tar, more Parkin and raisin cake complete with a spine of acid and firm, leathery tannins. Cracking wine with more moving parts than anticipated. As the wine opened in glass, more intensity with a blackberry jam aspect.

The nose was remarkably fresh, showing smoky minerals, giving way to ripe strawberry, stems and all, savory garique, hinting at sweet spice, and old leather. On the palate, I found soft textures, delivering a mix of ripe black and blue berries, as a wave of brisk acidity firmed up the expression, leaving a notion of violet florals. The finish was medium in length, lingering on ripe black fruits, a coating of sweet minerals and resonating purple floral tones.
It bears mentioning, that this note was taken from a bottle opened twenty-four hours prior and held at cellar temp.

Not yet sure about the aging potential of this great 89+ CdR of JL Chave's negociant range. Now 2 1/2 years after harvest, it already is starting to go, in my mind, into a dumb phase now with less fresh and vivid fruity notes and with more harsh acidity (as seen in too young Syrahs e.g. ...) and an overal loss in balance. The quality of the Appelaitions, the age of the vines (20-60 yrs.) of which the wine is made of, the time in barrels of 12 month and the famous winemaker would suggest a drining window of around 4-8 years after harvest for a CdR Villages. The low price (if this is a factor to consicder) would rather not suggest greater aging potential at all. So what is the truth? Anyone out there to give some valuable tips? Would very much appreciate as my wine seller is not sure as well!

Mmmouais. Don’t want to spoil the party here, but this a rather good generic cotes du Rhône. Nice fruit forward. But also rough cut, tannic and rather short and strong acidity. No need to cellar this.
Dusty, tart raspberry is complimented by perfectly ripe blackberry and even a bit of blueberry. Well balanced by savory herbs and a nice jolt of fresh cracked pepper and acidity. Grippy tannins on the finish.

Decanted 2 hours before we arrived at The Bird, this was the "arrival" wine to pair with hummus and olive oil. Acidity on this wine even after 2 hours was quite significant. But the hummus and olive oil and cheeses really paired quite well and allowed this wine to show a nice and slightly youthful dusty raspberry and a hint of mint. Olive and green pepper to the middle. The middle is darker, but still youthful and sweet. Finishes with a lot of restraint. 91 is a fair rating now, and I feel slight improvement is expected, but not much. Fair QPR here at 20 bucks retail.

Evaluating on day 2 (stored refrigerated overnight and brought back to temp). Seems like yet another delicious vintage of this. Fresh thyme, black pepper and cinnamon overlaying dark fruit and flowers with underlying savory and rocky-earthy depth. Excellent acidity keeps it lifted. Just the right amount of grippy tannins; structured, but ready to drink. Good stuff, great value.

The nose showed an attractive mix of crushed raspberry, blackberry and plum with notes of savory herbs, undergrowth, minerals and smoke. On the palate, I found soft textures, giving way to ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit with inner violet florals, as brisk acidity added energy while hints of grippy tannin slowly mounted. The finish was long yet vibrant, resonating on ripe dark fruits and spice with hints of tannic heft weighing on the senses.
The 2016 Mon Coeur is gorgeous, perfectly balanced and represents an amazing value.

MNB: Grab bag (Home (Noe st)): (blind) Medium plus ruby - hints of purple. Slightly reductive, slightly dirty nose - black cherry, hints of leaves, blackberry, slight smoked meat, hints of manure. Ripe fruit. Dry, full-bodied, 14.5% alcohol (correct), medium plus acid, medium plus tannins (chewy and a bit green). Slight oak influence - maybe 15% new or mostly 2nd use barrels.
Laterals: - Cahors - would be blacker - Burgundy - too tannic - NZ - higher acid - Cornas - would be earthier, less oak. - Washington syrah - fits.
Final call: 2016 Washington syrah, good quality - $40. Actually: 2015 Chave Mon Couer Cotes du Rhone, usually about 50%-50% Grenache-syrah 14.5% alcohol Not bad, especially for ~$20!

cheers - I'm all about value. I love CDR's and I love Chave....but this is a normal table wine CDR - very good but nothing special - and I can buy these all day long for $7-12. Try a Chapoutier, Guigal, or Jaboulet, and save $3-5.
Entry level 2016 Cote Du Rhone (Home): medium to full body. Lovely ripe fruit on the nose and onto the palate, quite rich dark fruit with a good line of acidity. there's quite a few tannins here that could do with resolving a bit more. decent finish for the level too. this is a very good CdR but could benefit for a little snooze for a year 14.5%

Bu en succ.
J'ai toujours préféré ses syrah (Offerus) à cette cuvée...le petit cout de
plus en vaut la peine selon moi.
Acidité faible et assez fruité, simple et pas long, bof.

What Jeremy Holmes said. It was actually best on day 3 so I would suggest some patience before you open one.

This is a really lovely Rhone. Fruits are perfectly ripe and it shows some black cherry and plum. There's a grind of fresh pepper and a touch of meat and earth. It has excellent balance and persistence.

MNB: Grab bag (Home (Noe st)): (blind)
Medium plus ruby - hints of purple.
Slightly reductive, slightly dirty nose - black cherry, hints of leaves, blackberry, slight smoked meat, hints of manure. Ripe fruit.
Dry, full-bodied, 14.5% alcohol (correct), medium plus acid, medium plus tannins (chewy and a bit green). Slight oak influence - maybe 15% new or mostly 2nd use barrels.
Laterals:
- Cahors - would be blacker
- Burgundy - too tannic
- NZ - higher acid
- Cornas - would be earthier, less oak.
- Washington syrah - fits.
Final call: 2016 Washington syrah, good quality - $40.
Actually: 2015 Chave Mon Couer Cotes du Rhone, usually about 50%-50% Grenache-syrah
14.5% alcohol
Not bad, especially for ~$20!

cheers - I'm all about value.

Lovely ripe fruit on the nose and onto the palate, quite rich dark fruit with a good line of acidity. there's quite a few tannins here that could do with resolving a bit more. decent finish for the level too. this is a very good CdR but could benefit for a little snooze for a year
