2016 Château Lanessan

Likes this wine:

Friday, May 17, 2019 - Decanted for 3 hours. Remains extremely tight on the nose, there is a faint tinge of leather lingering in the background and not much other than that. Fortunately the pallet offers a lot more than the nose leads on. The first sip is a mouth watering crispy acidic bite of unripe young red cherries, almost sour but not in an overbearing way. The mid palette is filled with green, pencil lead, a touch of salinity and olive. This is my first Lanessan and for whatever reason I was expecting a more fruit forward style, but was pleasantly surprised by the balance and leanness. This is a great example of a left bank Bordeaux that is approachable in its youth. When you factor in the $20 price tag it’s a hard one to beat. Color me impressed I will be buying more and hope to find some with a bit of age to see how they evolve.
