Sunday, September 21, 2008 - this was highly recommended by a clerk in a good wine shop. It took about a hour for the wine to open up and for a little "wet dog" nose to blow off. The wine was, to my taste, a little hot, acidic and restrained but well-made, quite dry and peppery but not in the tonguw wringingly tannic way.

My friend, with whom I left the majority of the bottle, liked it very much and I will say it went well with food. It is well made, balance and refined. Good wine, just not right in my wheel house as far as style goes .... I wouldn't buy more but I'll be happy to open and drink what's left.

EDIT: just read a NYT articel that comfirms the above: one person thinks the Arrowood Syrah is good enough but a little rough, the other says just wait for the food with it, it opens up more and improves greatly with the meal. Hah! So note to self: open and decant this one way early; drink with meal.
