94 Points

Saturday, July 4, 2020 - Dinner at Darren & Sophia's (Fifth Avenue): Built around the 2005 vintage and bottled in 2012, this was showing beautifully on the night. I loved the nose on this, with its lovely warm aromas of toast and toffee, cereal and sweet red apples, all garlanded with a ream of browned butter and a gentle sprinkle of nutmeg and cinnamon spice. Lovely. The palate showed a good bit of Pinot Noir on it, with a round, powerful feel to its rich flavours of red apples and cherry flesh, these seasoned with a bit of spice and a hint of those browned butter notes pick up on the nose. On the midpalate, a more lemony acid steak, and a nice creamy mousse emerged, carrying the wine into a lovely long finish that wed cherry flesh notes with a beautiful warm wash of spice. A full, generous Grande Cuvée, this was really enjoyable indeed.
