Wednesday, September 9, 2020 - My final try of Ucceliera in a very good vintage. Just like with the 07 Annata and a recent 04 Riserva, the lower altitude and Southern cluster location of Ucceliera's vine yards does not show well for my taste. On the nose the first impression is of tar and some very dark fruits, followed my medicinal and borderline oxidative notes on the palate that carry into the finish. Fairly coarse medium tannins. Will avoid Ucceliera just like neighbour Ciacci in warmer Brunello vintages going forward, as they lack the refinement I seek in Sangiovese. Having said that I did however enjoy their cooler vintage 2013.
