92 Points

Thursday, November 26, 2020 - I’ve had this wine almost two years ago and at that time it was stunning (rated 95, had three bottles in the same restaurant that night). This bottle showed less expressive, layered and less round. Still, it is a wonderful wine that is nicely in its tertiary stage but still shows enough fruit to reach a beautiful balance. This bottle was quite rustic, however, and while that’s a hallmark of the estate, it was a bit too rustic to reach the heights of the previous bottles. In addition it didn’t show as evolved and hence complex as the other bottles.

TN: Medium- expressive on the nose with lots of minerality, some earthy notes, dark fruits and a whiff of tobacco and leather. The palate shows more dimensions with blue, dark and even some hints of red fruit, minerality, herbs tobacco and leather. The precision is not overly high but good enoguh (same is true for the bouquet). The wine has still some edges, the tannins are not yet molten and the acidity was sticking out a bit. It’s fresh and light, pleasurable but without the gravitas of truly great wines. The finish has medium length and shows dark fruits and minerality.

Decanting: PnP at a restaurant. Needed just a bit of swirling in the glass and was ready to go. I guess 1 or 2 hours in the decanter could have soften the wine and improved the experience.
