90 Points

Thursday, February 11, 2021 - A bottle I bought only recently. Dark brick-ish colour, orange towards the rim. Very evolved. Some sweet, dried fruit, dried cherry, damson plum, intense rose petal, some caramel, herbs, lovage, spices, glycerin and balsamic notes, with good length. The tannin is only partly resolved and still has some dryness and grip, but is integrated well. The alcohol (14% ABV) comes through a little, adding to the impression of sweetness. Broad and more evolved, earthy and tertiary than a 22-year-old Barolo should be, but fairly balanced. Kind of grew on me even if I could not enjoy drinking more than two glasses without food because of its lack of freshness. Even sweeter, but also more harmonious with food on day two. Does not win a price for elegance, but … Drink now, pair with food.
