Thursday, April 1, 2021 - Holy smokes! Not sure what everyone else has been drinking to only barely give this 90pts - this hit it out of the park for me. DRC-ousted Lalou Bize-Leroy has made an amazing Gamay and I have to confess my ignorance - I didn't know Gamay was allowed in the burgundian appellations. Anyway, the wine is earthy and mushroomy, with a distinct sense of wet soil and rained pavers, finished off with a peppery smokiness. I used to buy a little beaujolais as a reaction to my early Amarone-heavy days, but it's been quite a few years since I regularly dabbled. But this feels like it would give the best producers there a good run for the money. Heavenly wine.
