96 Points

Saturday, June 26, 2021 - Dark ruby fruit - blackberry, currants, dark cherry, and some blueberry. Really smooth mid-palate with a beautiful purity and solid depth/concentration. Nice vibrant/rich flavors of dark berries, some spice, cassis, cocoa, and a graphite component. Fairly long finish. Decanted for three hours and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time but drinking well after the decant. A nice wine - no surprise of the 97 rating from WA. 83% cab sauvignon and 17% cab franc.

6/26/2021 6:00:00 AM - To be honest with you, I really don’t know. This is my first bottle of the Dalle Valle cab - I rarely spend that kind of money on a single bottle. I came across some bottles at a decent price in the secondary market and decided to give it a shot in light of the 97 rating from WA and reviews on CT. In addition, I have a bucket list of cabs that I at least want to try once and this was one of them. A really nice wine but once again the price point is a little out of my league. Take care.

6/26/2021 6:07:00 AM - Thanks Bad, I kinda feel the same way. Always looking for a good auction price on these. Much better buys then. Cheers!

6/26/2021 7:58:00 AM - Winemaker is now Maya Dalla Valle. Consulting by Erickson and Michel Rolland. I’ve been on their list for about 10 years now. It’s a guilty pleasure. Yes the price point is high, especially for Maya, but every time I pop a cork it’s ethereal. YOLO. Cheers

6/26/2021 8:21:00 AM - Thank you for the information. The Maya is also on a short list of wines that I really want to try. However, I’ll probably have to hold-off for a couple more years until I get all the kids through college. What a racket. Thanks again.

6/26/2021 8:56:00 AM - You are welcome! 1991 Maya was the wine that hooked me on collecting 20 years ago. My epiphany wine. The 50% cab franc makes it very special. Parker called DV’s cab franc the best in the new world. I agree.

7/27/2021 11:28:00 PM - Agree gentleman. Just tried my first Maya this past weekend and it was a marvelous experience. Very Bordeaux'esque. The nose was so good, I could just smelled it all night long... took me 30 min before my 1st sip.

7/28/2021 4:14:00 AM - Curious what vintage of Maya that you had? Once again, on a short list of wines that I really want to try but also want to be very selective because of the price point.

7/28/2021 8:34:00 AM - Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I’m only seeing the 2017 vintage in my area and I’m not going to pay that kind money for a 17. I’ll continue to be patient. Thanks again.
