Sunday, July 11, 2021 - What should one expect from such a wine? Difficult question.

Looking at it as a young Barolo at the bottom of the Barolo-pyramid of a quite average winemaker - not much.

Looking at it as a red wine costing 21 EUR, and designated Barolo, after all; one should be able to expect a rather solid red wine.

Anyway, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Unmistakable and clean nebbiolo notes in scent and taste, nevertheless it is rather underwhelming in depth and complexity. Quite often nebbiolos of this category are marketed as Nebbiolos rather than Barolos or Barbarescos, and I think it's better to think of this as a Nebbiolo than a Barolo (to be fair, its price is also closer to the former than the latter).

It feels pretty young; I'd guess that at least 2-3 years of aging should benefit it.

So... a fairly decent wine, but today, for me, not a real Barolo, rather a Nebbiolo D'Alba or something, and tbh not quite worth the 21 EUR I paid for it. Maybe in 2-3 years.

BTW: better on day 2, partly because the slight volatile acid disappeared, abut also generally it become more consistent and expressive after ~18 hours.
