I am a great lover of barolo, but this is a poor example; PnP, nose is still a bit unyielding, but the tones are pepper, gunpowder and leather. Bone dry, medium+ body, palate is dark berry fruit with medium+ acidity; tannins are starting to ingrate but this wine has a "harsh" quality to it that's not pleasant. Not a great example of a region that produces some outstanding wines!

3rd time and 3rd year I try 16 of fontanafreddas base Barolo. Has improved a lot! Starting to get ready to drink. Nice salty cherry notes w Gun powder, cigar, eucalyptus and menthe. Moved from cellar a year ago and has been in RT since which may have speeded up tunnel time…

2016 BarVBar Zoom tasting. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sour red cherries, peppermint leaf, pine resin, touch of cool earth, anise. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, soft gentle polished high tannins, barely full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, sweet baking spices, ripe strawberry, peppermint menthol, cool earth background. Clean long finish. Good quality. Easy approachable style. Like maybe a very good Langhe Nebbiolo. Can develop some, but not a long ager.

Nose is now mainly oak driven accompanied with cherries, violas and and some cocoa from the oak. Palate covers classic Barolonotes and opened up some eucalyptus and bigarot-flavours after some hours in the air. Length is medium and balance is not there, but it is for sure an enjoyable Barolo, but for now it needs some time in cellar.

Nice, easy drinking approachable Barolo, Decanted about an hour before serving, this has the structure you'd expect to age at least a few more years before its peak, but approachable now, and a good wine to drink as others age.

Nose shows classic barolo character with cherries, viola and flowers. Transition to palate is friction free, but a bit heavy on the oak and the balance which is not really there gives away a bit too much alcohol. Nice barolo touch and performs quite ok, but not more. Expect the tunnel to be long...

Madness and mayhem in Spöland (Spöland, North Sweden): Light violet colour. Super young Non-remarkable aromas. Taste is simple, violet fruity and has a tannic structure that has nothing to do with Barolo. Prominent acidity and … a little bit disappointing.

What should one expect from such a wine? Difficult question.
Looking at it as a young Barolo at the bottom of the Barolo-pyramid of a quite average winemaker - not much.
Looking at it as a red wine costing 21 EUR, and designated Barolo, after all; one should be able to expect a rather solid red wine.
Anyway, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Unmistakable and clean nebbiolo notes in scent and taste, nevertheless it is rather underwhelming in depth and complexity. Quite often nebbiolos of this category are marketed as Nebbiolos rather than Barolos or Barbarescos, and I think it's better to think of this as a Nebbiolo than a Barolo (to be fair, its price is also closer to the former than the latter).
It feels pretty young; I'd guess that at least 2-3 years of aging should benefit it.
So... a fairly decent wine, but today, for me, not a real Barolo, rather a Nebbiolo D'Alba or something, and tbh not quite worth the 21 EUR I paid for it. Maybe in 2-3 years.
BTW: better on day 2, partly because the slight volatile acid disappeared, abut also generally it become more consistent and expressive after ~18 hours.

Consistent with last bottle. There is quite a perfume and perhaps not the body to match but nonetheless an easy drinker and good with food with high acidity. There is high pitched cherry, orange blossom, tar and some rose petals. Actually I come to think about VA. And on the palate there is rosehip. Probably not meant for the lang haul.

Pours lighter in colour than expected for this varietal (first Barolo). Dazzling aromas of pepper, tobacco and old wood, with a touch of ripe cranberry on the front. Aromatics are displayed elegantly on the palate. Tannins are well structured, dusty and stretched, balanced with nice acidity. Finish is long. Body is medium/light.

No decant, this sings from pop n pour. Roses, bitter almonds and cherries. It is really inviting and perhaps you would ask for more body and structure but for the money this has to be a successful wine, much thanks to the vintage. It does change somewhat over time, more licorice and some thinning out of the fruit the next day - this wine is for consumption the coming 5 years or so.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Nebbiolo (@ RW): Bouquet with red berries like raspberries, flowers like roses and some earth. On the palate juicy red berries, mild acidity and tannin. In fact an opulent and tempting style. Lush wine.

It was worth keeping a few bottles around for this long, as it drinks beautifully now.
