2016 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Wednesday, August 4, 2021 - A structured and perfumed but relatively lean style.

Decanted for two hours (not long enough). Red and black cherry, plum, red currant, tar, purple flower, iron, thyme, tea. Started rather dark fruited but with another hour of air in the glass it moves more toward sweet red cherry type fruit. M to M+ body, M+ to high acid and tannins.

This is delicious even now if you like young Barolo (though I suspect the early drinking window is closing) but it’s wound up and will develop/unwind for many years. I’ll wait at least five years to open my next bottle but it may need ten + to be fully in a mature drinking window. It’ll be worth the wait because this is excellent. Great qpr too.

8-8.5/10 for now with clear upside

EDIT: meant to have the rest of this the next night but forgot about it in the cellar so finished it on night four instead. Now it has strong notes of dried ground rosey flowers, cinnamon stick, that sort of thing, along with similar fruit character as before but less fruit forward. Tannins are still grippy. No sign of falling off after four days open, just some really mild oxidation. Great wine and I’m excited to have this in maturity.
