Wednesday, October 9, 2019 - Light+ ruby to crimson going to a light orang-ey rim.
Eloquent nose with wild strawberry, cranberry and light red cherries (quite perfumed) intertwined with a savoury overlay that reveals blood, dry stones, iron and hint of white pepper - almost like a Mencia.
Light bodied with a tart, vibrant acidity on entry is filled out with strawberry jam, red cherry paste and blueberry that oozes its way along the palate. The tannins are fine and powdery, fair concentration but a surprising density given it is Gamay. The fruit fleshes out the tannins nicely, and the length is relatively persistent. A delightful wine in the glass that opened to show a smoky edge, cranberry and more crushed stone - the mineral edge gave it a really edgy frame. With its structural integrity, this will go further in the bottle.
