Sunday, January 6, 2013 - From half-bottle. Burnished gold. Very Sauternes nose, with the typical flavour profile: orange peel and burnt caramel, along with a very botrytis-inflected Christmas-spice note. A little disjoint and harsh on the palate; this feels a little angular with the alcohol jutting out awkwardly. Relatively thin in texture, compared with some greater years. Still, the textbook Yquem balance is there, with a nice acid backbone without being too sweet. On the other hand, the palate isn't too complex, and even though the correct flavours are all there, this seems a little one-directional.
