Thursday, June 16, 2011 - Color is a red/pink/purple amalgam, clear at the rim. The nose is heavy on spice, with layered cherry, cranberry, raspberry fruits, and a citric orange much like one of those antibacterial sprays. It is light medium in body, with a smooth though not quite silky texture. Lots of tartness on the palate - cranberry/orange with some sappiness and steminess. It finishes a bit harshly to me - the acidity and heat take over if I take more than a modest sip. There is quite a lot I like about this - the complexity, the tension, a sexy sappiness - but it still seems very gangly and awkward right now. To me, it's intellectually fascinating, it's stimulating, but it's not delicious right now. Will it come together and be an all-star? I suppose this is what wine and baseball are all about. Jason Heyward, are you Dave Winfield, or are you Joe Charboneau?
