Wednesday, January 1, 2020 - shared with pat at selkirk manor on new year's day to celebrate the beginning of the second decade of the twenty-first century. who would have that that we would have come this far? i have been working on clearing out the bins of dusties. despite encouragement from others to drink champagne whenever the mood strikes, i am still of the old school and reserve bubbles for special occasions. as a result, bottles such as this tend to languish in the cellar. this wine was highly rated upon release which prompted my purchasing several bottles. tasted previously in 2011 and 2017. quite pleasurable on both occasions. fortunately, this bottle has held up very well. paired with a variety of homemade canape incorporating cucumber, smoked oyster, caviar and shrimp mounted on pumpernickel mini bread. paired beautifully. still has vim and vigor. overall notes consistent with last tasting. pale straw color. persistent tiny bubbles. lots of the yeast and nutiness that i enjoy so much in a sparkler. the blend of pinot noir and chardonnay result in a wine that is graceful but with a firm backbone and strong presence. will look for this in more recent vintages. good value.
