Friday, April 17, 2015 - Between pjhr and Jeff's recent notes, I wasn't sure what to make of the aging window on this wine. I looked to my last note and given what I had written, let that break the tie. Opened about 30 mins ago, right to the stem with no decanting. Seems pretty ready to me, at least with this amount of air. Plush with some density but not lacking some acidity in my view. Darker fruit tones, some of the whole cluster influence in the aromatic yet some dark chocolate tones in the finish. Plenty left for the next day or so to see if this tightens up or gains a bit of complexity. FWIW, reminds me of older styled Pax, with the dark fruit depth and the stem inclusion married together...adding another day of slow ox air, the wine brightened a bit more, for sure becoming more tangy and adding some savory. There is still quite a bit of dark fruit, but it's mixture of black and red, then all of the things I'd think of with this style of syrah--cooked meat, rosemary, bit of dark coffee. Just a savory, fuller bodied wine that will tang you all up. I'd tend to agree now with both pjhr and Jeff, seeing the wine somewhere in the middle of their aging window assessment, so you could drink this now or age it another couple years.
