Friday, October 10, 2014 - Lamb for supper and my hands fell on this in my drinking fridge. Double decanted then left for a brief half hour (I figure it's fully mature so won't need much more than that). On the nose there are aromas of biscuit, leather, very slight brambley fruit, gamey meat, slight oxidation and a certain sourness/volatile acidity note. On the palate the wine is dry with a certain juiciness, the initial impression in the mouth is of slight oxidation then muted sour fruits, spice, drying leather rolls into a furry tannic grip which is joined by some alcohol warmth. The tannin persists on the gums. Hmm. I'm happy this is the last bottle - a touch over the hill for me but still obviously a good quality wine.

Do you think this wine is past it's best or do you think your bottles may have been heat effected? Just asking as the CT drinking window suggests best before 2017. However, reading your notes I m thinking I should pop one to see how mine are tracking. Grateful for any feedback. Andrew

10/11/2014 4:15:00 AM - Hi Andrew, yeah, this one has been round the world at least twice as it was the last bottle from a half case I picked up when I lived in the UK. The tasting note prior to this (from August) was a mate's - he has a massive transtherm but we've had a dodgy St Henri out of it quite recently as well...Soooo, if you've got a few bottles I'd use my tasting notes as an excuse to pop with a lamb roast before summer really takes hold! happy quaffing, cheers, chatters
