Tuesday, August 17, 2010 - First impression was of a pronounced wood-smokiness on the nose, with leather and a bit of olive. Then came some rusty iron notes, but the wine is very clean (no barnyard). The ripeness level is good and I find a sufficient amount of acidity, too. Not as deep and complex as a great vintage, and not as wild as Verset's Cornas (my personal benchmark). Doesn't have what I'd call lots of fruitiness yet it's by no means dried out or shriveled up. The tannins are noticeable but mostly resolved. A far cry from the black-strap wine Cornas was long reputed to be, this has an elegance (not daintiness) about it that's quite pretty. Good wine.
