Friday, December 2, 2011 - Bill's Monthly Lunch - December 2011 (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind – medium to deep red. This at first had that vitamin casing smell but thankfully it blew off leaving notes of sweet dark red fruits, tobacco and plums. This nose was Bordeaux-ish, but not quite. In the mouth this is quite silky with red fruits, firm tannins and good acidity. Very-well balanced. Once it was revealed as ’96 Dominus it became clear as this ’96 typically isn’t as claret-like as other vintages of Dominus can be (’91 and ’94 come to mind). This ’96 is drinking well but I think it should improve with another few years in the cellar. Very good. 89+
