99 Points

Wednesday, August 20, 2014 - A rich tapestry of red and dark fruit married to a broad range of stoney, led pencil and licorice notes. There's a slight creamy tone too. It's uncanny - striking and balanced at the same time. Everything is so deft and expressive. I love this wine. A lot. Drink or hold - you can't lose either way. Just don't kick the bucket before you finish your stash.

9/4/2014 9:36:00 PM - Greetings Outlier- I opened a bottle of 2007 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova and decanted four hours for a party . Darn thing never opened up. I have some bottles of the 2006 and would like to serve one at a party about two weeks from now. Any ideas on decanting time or anything I should do special. This will be my first 2006- and if I like it I noticed I could pick up seven more bottles at $90 per bottle to get me to ten total. (I have ten of the 2007 for aging) good idea to pick up 7 more? Your thoughts appreciated. -Dave. P. S. I did have one bottle of the 2007 that after a long decant came around-WOW was it good.

    9/4/2014 9:54:00 PM - Hi Vintage1949,
The '07 is definitely not in the same league as the '06 in my estimation. I don't think you will regret buying more of the '06 but it might be worth trying one before you buy. The Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova does seem to vary quite a bit per vintage in terms of how closed it can be. I had six of the '01 and it was virtually impenetrable - it was a brick, even two years ago (I decided to sell the three I had left), whereas the '06 seems quite open already to me. The '99 is also an etherial gem if you can get it. Am not sure about decanting time - I tend not to decant that long - I'd be surprised if you were to find the '06 anything but open after an hour or so of decanting. It is one of my favorite Brunellos if not my outright favorite. Another contender was '04 Collemattoni, which I can't find any more.

9/5/2014 10:03:00 AM - Thanks for your kind comments. From your remarks I will open one up at the party to determine if I should order more. I just received notice I made Quilceda Creek's mailing list. Hopefully I can buy just a couple bottles so I can get more of the 2006 you commented on. Also coming up in five months will be the 2013 Schrader futures. (That puts a dent in my wine budget) Once again it was most kind of you to impart your knowledge to me about this wine. Sincerely-Dave
