Saturday, October 17, 2020 - Decanted for a couple of hours - this was very enjoyable, showing really youthfully for a 22 year wine. The nose was classic Nebbiolo, with red berries infused with notes of flower petals, then learth, method and smoky, tarry spice. Very attractive. The palate still had a noticeable layer of
fine but firm tannin structure to it, along with a nice bit of acidity, these robed around a decent core of red berry flavours, again infused with more secondary notes of meat, earth and a gentle floral note. Nice finish too, with that spicy, tarry tone picked up on the nose coming in on the back-palate. Not the greatest Giacosa Barberesco - this felt a tad structural and less lush than some of the greater vinataves - but an enjoyable drink nonetheless, with its best years still ahead of it. Try again in 2022 onwards.
