95 Points

Friday, July 23, 2021 - I was surprised to see that I haven’t published any notes on this over the past years. This is my second to last bottle. And I’m very happy to see that this wine has probably arrived ‘a point’ by now!

Medium-light ruby/red color with remarkable little signs of aeging yet. Enticing aroma’s with cherry, blackcurrant and leather at the core with some basalmic notes, hay, wet earth, red licorice, laurel and cedar evolving with every swirl. A silky smooth mouthfeel with balanced acidity and some sweet fruit. The finish is very long and echoes the initial aromas.

The bottle was only open for one hour when I wrote down this note. It didn’t lose any of its facinating complexity over the 4 hours we consumed the bottle.

It is nice to see some of the ‘04 and ‘06 Brunello from my own cellar arrive at that ultimate balance of vibrance and smoothness with an enticing complexity. Just like I first came to know Brunello in the late nineties by drinking some ‘85. It’s been a fascinating journey ever since. And this Querce Bettina a memorable testimony of it.
