Friday, May 15, 2015 - Quite an austere showing for this traditionally made Brunello. While the wine opened up noticeably over 3+ hours in the decanter, it was nevertheless quite tight and closed. Great structure, with the expected well calibrated levels of tannin and acidity, but at this point in its development, the wine isn't have quite enough fruit to flesh out its structure. I wouldn't touch this for another 10 years. And this should go without saying, but this wine absolutely requires food. Wine is not a cocktail. (Base neck ullage on this bottle, although the cork was in absolute perfect condition. Still, one doesn't expect base neck ullage on a wine that's only been in the bottle for 5 or 6 years.)
