Saturday, April 23, 2022 - Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL): Based on the two bottles tonight, I think Poggio di Sotto may well be the sangiovese producer closest to my own personal preferences (despite my gateway to the grape being Cerbaiona). Clean red fruit here, with fewer earthy/leathery tones than many of the top producers on the table tonight. Bright and crystalline with impressive purity of fruit above all else. The tannins here are still quite young and I think that this will readily benefit from further aging.
