Wednesday, January 24, 2024 - My last bottle shows a youthful, medium yellow colour. Lots and lots of acacia blossom on the nose, with pear and some fleeting wax. Another 20 minutes sees the addition of further floral scents, then lime. The mouth is concentrated, possessing a medium to fullish body, nicely firm backbone, plenty of sinew and energy, and a dominant limey flavour which carries a little natural sweetness towards the finish. While not seamless, this Wigan has pleasantly surprised me. It is very good plus and is now drinking well (with hot-smoked carp on rye crispbread). Comparing this bottle to the one noted in 2014, the 2006 Wigan reveals itself as a late developer. In hindsight, I should have allowed for this positive turn, which it seems I did not, back in 2014.
