  • My last bottle shows a youthful, medium yellow colour. Lots and lots of acacia blossom on the nose, with pear and some fleeting wax. Another 20 minutes sees the addition of further floral scents, then lime. The mouth is concentrated, possessing a medium to fullish body, nicely firm backbone, plenty of sinew and energy, and a dominant limey flavour which carries a little natural sweetness towards the finish. While not seamless, this Wigan has pleasantly surprised me. It is very good plus and is now drinking well (with hot-smoked carp on rye crispbread). Comparing this bottle to the one noted in 2014, the 2006 Wigan reveals itself as a late developer. In hindsight, I should have allowed for this positive turn, which it seems I did not, back in 2014.

  • Typical Eden Valley riesling. Citrus, lime and a good expression of terroir with its minerals backbone. Could do with another 5+ years as it has not developed its tertiary characteristics fully. A wine in transition.

  • Lots of citrus on the very nice nose, and these are echoed on the palate, with grapefruit, lime, lemon and a bit of pear and pineapple as well. There is a slight honey note that lurks and runs from the front palate to the finish. Lovely acidity still is the star here: very refreshing. This is beautiful now, but should last quite a while under the screwcap (A-).

  • Had over two days. Yellowish. Lots of lime, but beneath that there seems to lurk tropical fruit, which is then replaced by a sensation of lime, steel, flowers and lemons. A weaker nose on the 2nd day. The flavour is dominated by lime and the wine seems primary and with quite a bit of grip. On the 2nd day, the mouth is even more limey. Lean, unlike the 1st day, and lacking fruit sweetness. Although this Wigan is good plus, this is one of the few riesling wines which I have found to have performed worse on the 2nd day.

  • Bright lemon yellow. Evolved nose with intense lime, canned pineapple, herbs, undergrowth and relatively subtle petrol compared to other aussie rieslings. Medium-bodied with ripe, bordering to overevolved fruit, medium concentration for the price and high acidity. Med-long aftertaste and clearly inferior to the two previous vintages.

  • Very strong nose of chinese gunpowder tea, lime fruit, some industrial aromas of diesel, printing smell, aceton. Too much for me, not for drinking (although I certainly enjoy fine kerosene aromas of German rieslings).

  • 2011 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting (Olympic Park, Homebush): Gold medal. {screwcap} Quite aged. A whiff of petrol amongst the toasty, aged citrus aromas. The palate is clean enough, dry, rather lighter in weight and the aging flavours rather washed out. Most disappointing factor is the short finish. Ready to drink now but something of a disappointment anyway, especially given the quality of last year’s 2005 and also the 2004 tasted fifteen minutes later…
