90 Points

Monday, March 7, 2011 - Sampled 3/6/11. Inky purple color. The reason I stopped drinking even the very best Hess wines years ago is because this winery has a far greater love affair with Oak than with grapes. Unfortunately, that love has not faded one bit over the past decade. What is otherwise a 93 or even 94 point wine is destroyed by Oak chips that are all but floating in the glass. The wonderful blackberry, black cherry, cassis, dried herb and vanilla elements are all but dominated by a thick layer of Oak. Perhaps I'll give Hess another try in another decade.
