Monday, February 27, 2012 - Consumed over the course of two evenings. At times, the nose seems to be holding back and revealed only ripe jammy berries; at other times, the familiar Syrah scents of blackberries, pepper and smoke come through. The palette is creamy, smooth and balanced. The finish is long, and at times a bit feisty and ripe. This Syrah is clearly young but gives subtle hints of great things to come. The wine improved with time in the glass, and was noticeably better on Day 2. The only way I can reconcile the poor score on Wine Spectator is a flawed bottle, or the bottle was popped, poured and consumed without aeration. In my opinion, better after 2013. 91+.
