2009 De Loach Pinot Noir Marin County

96 Points

Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - ABV: 13.5%. Notes of herbs and spice immediately jump out of the glass, surrounded by a core of rhubarb, pomegranate, and black cherries. The acidity is well-integrated on the palate, lifting the fruit and keeping everything lively. There's also an umami profile that lingers on the lengthy finish. I initially rated this wine around the low 90s (90-91), but kept raising it by a point here and there as it kept opening up over the past 3 hours. This wine will easily cellar for another 5 years, but I wouldn't be surprised if it stays intact for another decade.

1/26/2022 - Impressive! Raised the score by two points (from 94 to 96) since it showed even better on day two. All the characteristics of this wine have melded together, giving off a cherry cola profile that's reminiscent of some of the Willamette Valley Pinots that I've had. The mouthfeel is soft and elegant, and the herbs, spice, and fruits are even more harmonized. With the way this wine is holding up after being opened for 24 hours, it will easily cellar until 2029.
