Thursday, February 28, 2008 - Pop and pour. Tasted over 2 hours. Bright garnet ruby. Roomfilling deep, ripe cherry and oak - vanilla, coconut, clove, hint of anise incense and lanolin. Great fruit/acid attack. Medium bodied, straight ahead. Very satisfying, esp for a villages. Cranberries. Nice buried structure - the 05 vintage - but also lush. Will be wonderful in 7 years, glad I have more. Good front palate, hollow mid, no back. Not that long, but what did I expect, this is a villages, as good as it is. Half empty bottle corked at 53 degrees overnight.
24 hours later - Deepening. Varnish hints on nose (pleasant). Baked cherry turnover, without sugar. Then, some whiffs of blue and even black fruits emerging. Longer than I remember last night. Knitting together. Fine tannins, but really an excellent fruit/acid/tannin balance. Very, very nice. Two more years, and then over the next ten or so. A couple more points of upside if this continues to develop this way.
