Wednesday, September 27, 2023 - 50/50 PN/C. Wines from 2016 & 2017 with a mixture of malo and non-malo fermentation, 30% reserve wines from barrels. Disgorged June 2021, dosage 2g/l.

This is very austere and a bit aggressive on first opening, but it opens up very nicely indeed after perhaps 30-45 minutes air and continues to improve over the following hour. My score is based on that, not when first opened.

The nose becomes quite forward and with quite some complexity: brioche, cream, citrus, green apples. The palate follows and it is nicely balanced and not at all as austere as some wines at this dosage. There are some hints of minerals, and the finish is rather clean and moreish (with grapefruity citrus).

Overall this is an excellent fizz, which really rewards the patience to leave it for an hour after opening (I guess decanting may work also). At the ~US$33 that I paid this is a big repeat buy.
