Friday, May 17, 2019 - Incredible aromatics, fascinating fruit, a nice but a bit of a truncated finish.

This bottle knocked my socks off. The different flavors that waved over my palate were incredible. For me a WOW wine. (I did have to send the first bottles back as the wine upon pouring looked like light red fruit juice.) I have one bottle left-any idea when the best time would be to crack it open? Dave

    8/23/2019 8:39:00 AM - Hi Radboy,
Really appreciate it when you send me updates. Great to know the 2009 is still kicking. Grin Since you have this wine going back to 2009 am I correct you have been with Cayuse many years and may be getting Bionic Frog? If so I have the following questions about BF. (My first vintage of BF was 2016) Generally speaking is the BF more elegant than Cailloux or is it a fruit bomb? How long do you have to age the 2016 BF? Thanks again for sending me that update. Dave

I think about drinking windows and inevitably they seem best to me starting at the 5 year mark, but preferably at the 7-10 year mark. I think the fruit gets muted after 10 years and the rustic flavors emerge. Not my favorite, but to each his own. I can’t remember the last Frog I opened before the 7 year mark but I will probably try one earlier just to find out. My next mission! Cheers, Steve

People don’t know how many missions we have to endure as a cellar holder. Grin This is a tough business! I am currently hunting for a Chateau d’yquem that will be good when I an having a couple last bottles. Seems like 2015 might be a good candidate. What are your thoughts? The bottle would be 20 years old. Besides a couple bottles of DP a couple more bottles of Dom Laughing-don’t want to be a cheap skate at the end. Dave

8/31/2019 10:13:00 AM - It is tough assignment but we can do it! I have a bottle of 1990 d’Yquem I am holding for when I retire in 4-5 years. By all accounts it has years of life ahead. So starting now is a good idea, i haven’t checked the vintages though.

Figure DP and ‘Yquem would be great bottles to share with close friends if I get a chance. That time is still twenty years down the road. I can see you like d’Yquem also. Do you think a 2015 d’yquem will last until about 2035? Of course this is a small lot-need to concentrate on wine for the next five to fifteen years to enjoy. Will be constantly asking CT’ers their thoughts and try a couple bottles to see if my tastes match theirs. So far Bevan and Carter wines seem to be a fit. However I need a full spectrum of wines to be happy not just one or two wines. Here is to you that you find the wines that make you happy! Dave

Just checked for you. RP gave vintage ‘90 d’yquem the following
    98points

    Release Price
    NA

    Drink Date
    2019 - 2044

2044——should be way way long enough for you. When you retire might crack open a 2001 Château Rieussec in your honor if that if that is ok with you. It would be my privilege. Once again Dave
