Friday, July 20, 2012 - This took a three plus hour decant to come around. Big, ripe, strapping wine with baked strawberry, brown spice, black pepper and savory animal notes. It's at an interesting stage of evolution where it still has fruit left, shows very nice development and richness, yet is still fairly astringent. I think a Barolo drinker would find the combination of red fruit, spice and big structure here quite alluring. But for most folks this will need lots of air and some food to tame these elements. Very enjoyable, but I will try to hold my last few bottles for a few more years.
