Monday, June 4, 2012 - This wine was popped and poured, then serially tasted with wild Pacific salmon. The robe is medium-to-deep ruby and the nose shows immediately expressive aromas of raspberry, caramel, potpourri and smoke. Medium-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, medium sweet tannins, well-integrated alcohol (despite being listed as a whopping 14.9%!) and flavors mirroring the nose. The middle palate is solid and the smooth finish is lengthy. I defy anyone to tell me that Dehlinger is not on your list of top three New-World Pinot producers. Tom Dehlinger is the California equivalent of Lalou Bize-Leroy. Do not misunderstand me...the wines are very different despite the commonality of being made from the same grape. But the passion and the end product are, in my opinion, quite comparable in terms of quality. Drink this one now or anytime before 12/18.
