Tuesday, August 20, 2013 - I like everything about this wine except the finish. I don't know if it's in a bad spot, is too young, or is just very hot (14.9% abv) and oaky as part of its style. Definitely a big, bold, dark Pinot. Nice nose of berry, cherry, violets, barnyard, oak (cedar, smoke, vanilla). Lots of fruit and spice on the palate. The finish starts off smooth and mellow, but finishes very hot and oaky, smoky, harsh. This is my first Dehlinger, so I don't know if this is representative or not. The style seems very Central Coast to me, rather than Sonoma Coast. Update Sep 14, 2013: tried in 2 different PN glasses - Eisch & Riedel; tried Eisch with and without vigorous decant. Surprisingly, the finish is a bit smoother in the Riedel glass. Still hot - maybe just the alcohol level, but not as bad as 3 weeks ago. A nice Pinot, but for me the alcohol level is high. Maybe better in a couple more years when the oak influence is tempered somewhat...
