93 Points

Thursday, January 26, 2012 - Popped and poured through an aerator. The nose is a touch restrained/tight but appealing nonetheless. But the palate is where the action is. Pure dark fruit framed by a deft touch of creamy, chocolatey oak notes, and some secondary forrest floor aspects to boot. The balance between the fruit and oak character is impeccable, as they truly enhance each other. Decent length here, too, although not a particularly forceful structure. Tannin is evident but very smooth and not at all a detriment to sipping this wine by its lonesome, although it would be wondrous with a New York Strip to be sure. A night later, this opens up a bit more, with the intensity of fruit increasing significantly. Remarkably, the oak balance seems to scale with it. Not sure which night I liked better, but both showing were superb. Definitely excited to try the Corona Vineyard version. 93+.
